KALI BARI TEMPLE

Kali Bari Temple is situated on top of the Bantony Hill, Shimla. It is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple was constructed in the year 1845 and was situated near the vicinity of Rothney Castle on the Jakhoo Hill. It was built by Ram Charan Brahmachari, a Bengali Brahmin. Later on, the Britishers relocated the temple to its present location.

The shrine features a blue shaded idol of Goddess Kali and sports a unique Hindu-style architecture. The Kali Bari temple now boasts of the scenic view of the lush green forests and the mountain ranges adding to the divinity in the atmosphere. It is one of the oldest temples in Shimla and is located in the heart of the city.

The temple is visited by tourists throughout the year, but it is advisable to visit the Kali Bari temple during the auspicious occasion of Kali and Durga Puja. Local folklore says that during these auspicious times, Goddess Kali comes to her abode and wishes her devotees abundantly. At the time of Navratri, thousands of pilgrims flock to the temple to garner the blessings of the powerful goddess.

The spiritual arena is located right next to the famous Mall Road in Shimla. You can take a stroll from Mall Road to reach the Kali Bari temple. There are many monkeys around this area, and visitors are advised to keep themselves and their belongings safe.

The best time to visit the temple is by morning or afternoon, and footwear is not allowed inside the temple premises. The camera is allowed inside the temple, and there is no restriction on capturing pictures or videos. There are food stalls and washrooms near the temple premises for the convenience of visitors and pilgrims.
